New York City Walk?

What a difference a few weeks make. "The World" has changed a little over these past weeks, and seeing pictures like this must seem odd or inappropriate somehow. This walk around New York City was on February 22nd. So try to enjoy a peek into the recent past and remember that there will be a future where this is all "back to normal" and a big old rant like this might seem silly when looked upon in the future.

Of course, every trip to the New York Toy Fair includes a trip to the big city itself. I suppose we could just go home, but we are already here, so let's walk around and get some pictures.

Random picture from the train ride into the city...Can you think of a clever graphic icon for "keep feet off seats"? They couldn't. If you can't read English, does it still apply to you? Or do they expect all non-English speaking people to just be polite normally, and not need a sign.

And of course we went the wrong way out of Penn Station, as usual. We were mostly going in the right direction, and when we found The High Line, we hopped up there to cross the streets quicker.

Sign with some educational text. We'll read it later, we gotta get to the Toy Fair!

Wow I sure do feel safe walking right next to this construction zone. Wait. I mean, the opposite of that. This feels like something is going to fall on me. Anybody got a hardhat I can borrow for a minute?

Small park in front of the train stop next to the Javitts Center. I think this was supposed to be a water fountain and this is maybe Neptune? It was not as freezing-cold as it usually is this time of year, but still too cold for water to be in the fountain.

Make sure to kiss the frog! Not so cool anymore to joke about kissing city objects? It's obvious nobody is actually going to kiss this thing, right?

There's The Vessel. It was here last year, but you needed to make a reservation to walk around it. We'll check it out after the Toy Fair. What is it? It's like a big sculpture thing you can walk around and climb up or whatever.

Annnnd... time skip! After the show, we walk over to see what the deal is. Standing under it, it's a lot bigger than we thought! The free online reservations are available a few days in advance, or you could go to the 4th floor of the shopping mall and buy a pass for $10 and go up right away. $10 didn't sound too bad but we already did a ton of walking. Considering what NYC is going through right now, maybe we should have gone when we had the chance.

Here's the giant mall right next to The Vessel. We took a picture of the directory but there was a terrible reflection on the photo so we couldn't use it. Most of the stores are ritzy and expensive.

Saw this graffiti and just had to share. Welcome to New York City!

Surprised to see a Target right in the middle of the city! What's even more shocking is that it was right directly across the street from....

Macy's! I just turned around to take this other picture. Macy's is the store with all the history behind it, and the glamorous Xmas window displays. How long until it's no longer the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and it becomes the Target Parade?

At the anime store and saw some voice actor autographed POP! Figures in the display cabinet! Those characters on the show are in Super Hero School and would probably find it awkward and cool that fans would want their autographs.

There's a pretty good 2nd-hand video game store right outside of Times Square. They have a ton of special release box sets for rare games and a wall of Amiibos. Some of these we've never seen for sale anywhere!

This figure reminded us about the show Star Blazers and how we remembered it was awesome, but not remember any specifics. I wonder how well it would hold up to a re-watching marathon? We still remembered the theme song: We're off to outer space! We're leaving Mother Earth! To save the Human race! Our Star Blazers!

I've probably taken a picture of the girl-version Freddy Krueger figure before and said something about it being a dream vs a nightmare. Pinkie Pie doesn't look worried at all. Who wants to bet that she and Freddy are totally best buddies? Freddy is no match for Pinkie Pie.

There was a huge Fate: Grand Order section at the big Kinokuniya Japanese bookstore. This is where we picked up that little Mash charm.

Sidewalk ad pointing us towards the CBS store. I don't think we've ever been there, but we asked Google for directions, and it was already closed. So no merch from the new Picard show tonight.

There's a new Bowser busting into the Nintendo World store! I wonder how many people did the pose where he's giving them a high-five?

Is this like, the Pokemon black market? Who says you have to earn the Gym Badges by defeating the trainers? We'll sell you a whole set of 'em!  Here comes Officer Jenny, quick... hide the merchandise!

Anybody else notice the Statue of Liberty Pikachu has a Litwick pokemon for the torch? And how many people say Team Magma like Dr Evil? Mag-mah.

These were the only new Pokemon Sword and Shield plushies we saw. Not too exciting but they are pretty cute.

I don't remember Captain Falcon's helmet being here. They should have his glove so everyone could say "FALCON---- PUNCH!"

Another reminder that we need to play the new Luigi's Mansion game. We're not scared or anything.

Nobody is crowding the plaza to get in the background of The Today Show these days. But here it is to remember what that must have been like.

We were curious if there would be any Lego Masters TV show contestants in the Lego booth at the Toy Fair, but we don't think there was. We did know about the art display in the Rockefeller Center Lego Store, and it was cool to get a picture of it.

You can zoom in and read Jessica's poster next to it. Also zoom-in and see the guy we caught picking his nose in the background. Busted! Haha that's like the worst thing you can do, especially in NYC. Enjoy your international cold, dude! Sorry to Ragzy and the distraction it caused. They've never called her "Ragzy" on the show yet.

You can zoom in and get a closer look at the techniques used to make this work of art. At first glance it did not look this complicated, but the closer you get, it gets more and more strange. Is there some kind of lesson here?

We did a quick run through the Lego store, and snapped a picture of this display. Which is now a clever reminder that while you are at home, you can build yourself your own NYC to explore!
