Lincoln Memorial

Four score and seven weeks ago.... How much is a score again? You think Lincoln would have used the "score" terminology if he knew nopony in the future would remember how much a score was? Here's a big 'ole monument to remind everypony how cool this guy was.

Very ancient Roman looking building. What would it be like to be that one person in ancient times that thought up of the whole "column" thing? Mad props to that guy! (Or gal?)

Nice building but LINCOLN is in there! Click on the "Read more" below!

We were all pretty thirsty when we arrived so a relaxing stop for some beverages. And we saw the other side of this kiosk had a gift shop in it? It was an odd place for a walk-up gift shop.

Haha. Cartoon guy is gobbling up trash. Gross.

Sun right over the place. Lincoln shining bright!

looking away from the monument is the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument. Right at the other end of the pool is the new-ish World War II Memorial we got pictures of that later.

The steps of the Monument is a tourist chill-out spot? There were tons of people here!

There he is! Or, well,... not him really. I know he was a tall guy, and he was a larger-than-life kinda guy, too.

Always nice to get a picture sitting on something. It feels more like a real connection.

Is this what the internet is talking about when I hear the term "wall of text?"

More cool history text on the other wall.

Who peeks behind the statue? Somepony saw us and told us a fun story about a hidden secret!...

Apparently the face of General Lee is molded into the contours of the back of Lincoln's hair? Lee's face is looking towards Arlington which used to belong to him!  Is this just a myth? I think I can kinda see it!

In the monument is a small book store? Seems kinda random but it's neat, too.

Haha kid Lincoln has a beard.

View from the top. I can see why so many people choose to relax here. It seemed very relaxing.

Wandered to the back of the monument. It's just a big marble wall.

 Ah. Nice cool marble.

Over the bridge is the Arlington Cemetery. And there's a subway stop over there, too. Right here we're kinda far from any subway stops in either direction.

You can see the streaks in the columns as wear-n-tear damage has been fixed.

Here's a marble slide down the edge of the stairs, who could resist? My friend underestimated the speed he would pick up on the way down and nearly fell on his butt. The kids were having fun with it and managed better.
