More Animal Crossing!

You didn't think we had just one batch of pictures for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, did you? Since we can't go on adventures like we normally do, this game has become the adventure. This bunch of pictures is to showcase some more details about what you can do in the game.

Ah, the humble beginnings of Fort Pillow. Remember those tents we used to live in? Your island is randomly generated and you get to choose from a few selections. If you are curious, the things you cannot eventually change include the main plaza and airport locations, as well as the beach and river ends where they meet the ocean. Having never played an Animal Crossing game before, we had no idea what would be good or not, and just picked one that looked interesting.

Dodo Airlines fly you to the different places. The pilot Wilbur here talks like Eugene from The Walking Dead. He spouts so much technobabble which sounds like references you don't get. Wilbur suggests you go catch some bees and chop some trees.

Some of the outfits you find can be pretty funny. Who wouldn't want to dress up like a prison escapee and run around with an axe? Don't worry, that axe is only for the trees.

Money grows on trees? If you dig up a glowy-spot you'll get a bag of money! Plant the money back in the hole, and several days later a... money tree will sprout! Or you could just spend the money now. Your choice if you want to wait a few days for the tree to grow. And when I say days, remember this game runs in real time. So if you do this on Monday, you might have to actually wait until Thursday. Crazy, huh?

Another thing, that randomly happens, is your neighbors will sing in the main plaza. The game uses non-specific noises for the "voices" similar to like, maybe Artoo Detoo? Not as droid-y but that's the idea. The tones and pacing of the voices convey what they are trying to say along with the written text. And the singing is super cute.

Random balloons fly by, carrying presents? Who sends these? Nobody knows. But get out your slingshot and pop 'em! You can listen for a swooshing noise if they are near and you can't quite see them. There are a lot of audio cues in this game.

There's a design app on your in-game phone to make very simple artwork in. You can put these designs on clothes and stuff. We made a Fort Pillow logo and put it on... a pillow! Our island has it's own merch now!

Donating this seahorse to the museum, we got a kick out of the silly inventory graphic and the big eye on that thing. So adorable! Have fun in the aquarium tank!

Wish upon a star? That's in the game, too! Another sparkly audio cue, look up and... wish! Tomorrow you might find star pieces washed up on the beach, and can use those valuable things to craft some cool stuff!

The clothing shop is run by hedgehog sisters, their other sister Label is traveling the fashion world. She visits the island to ask you to give her ideas for a theme. Basically dress how you think you'll match and she'll reward you with a prize.

What kind of party was I going to? She's taking notes. Looks like this is an excuse to use all the wacky clothes you accumulate, but she also asks for themes like "work" and "comfort".

One of the sweetest things in the game is the two sisters who run the clothing shop, and how the shy older sister Sable warms up to you if you talk to her every day. Mabel pokes at her like a real sister would. It can be said about most Nintendo games, that they can really nail sentimental dialog as well as any Pixar film.

If you have Amiibos, you can scan them into your game! Several years ago, they made sets of trading cards with Amiibo chips in them. We bought a few packs back then, just out of curiosity. If we only knew, we would have gotten a lot more!

Flick visits you randomly. He's a bug-nut. Not only will he pay you one-and-a-half times the price for your bugs, but if you give him three of the same bug, he'll make a little art statue of it for you to display! He also has very funny dialog.

Fishing Tournament? Yeah! C.J. holds contests four times a year, win some prizes! He'll also visit randomly just like Flick, but with fish instead of bugs.

Using the bait, we almost caught 10 fish in the 3 minutes. The 10th one was reeling in when the time rang. No need to rush, though. You can do it over and over again to score more points. We stopped at 100 points thinking that was the limit, but that only got us the Bronze Trophy. Next time we'll know to keep going.

If you are up on a Sunday before noon, you can buy Turnips from Daisy Mae, and play the "stalk" market. Each day, the shop will offer a different buying price. Might be higher, probably lower. The good news is, your friend's islands might have a better price! Ask around, visit them, and make a ton of money! But do it before next Sunday when the turnips spoil.

This new guy Peewee moved in. Every neighbor has their own catchphrase, and he's calling me "li'l bitty baby"? Oh... NO! The internet warned us there might be people you would not want moving to your island, but we never thought we'd get one. We spoke to Resident Services Rep Isabelle about his language, and he still called us li'l bitty baby. He's gotta go! It's not as easy as you think to get rid of somebody.

There are a few things you can do to annoy a neighbor. Smack them repeatedly with a bug net! We felt bad the whole time, but how else were we going to bother him enough to move away? We also put his home on a cliff as far away as we could.

After a week of tormenting this poor guy, we read that you can force people out by using the Amiibo cards. Hey, that's an option for us! We have some of those! Basically invite a new character to your campsite, and after three times, they ask to move in. They give you an option to choose who to ask to leave... and good bye li'l bitty baby!

Here's an example of a Do-It-Yourself DIY recipe. Most of these require island resources like wood and rocks, but some are very specific. We had two of these, and a friend sent over Mama Bear. Yeah, you can send items to your friends playing the game.

GIANT TEDDY BEAR! Haha where are we going to put this thing? Anybody win anything this big in a ring toss at a carnival or something?

After unlocking the terraforming tools, we are building a grand entrance right outside the airport. Taking a break to fish in the nonsense waterfall lake we just created. There's going to be a bridge there eventually.

Of the random tiny islands you visit to gather resources, we lucked out and got one crammed with rare Blue Pansies! There was 35 of them! While this looks like just flowers, this is something of a "Jackpot!" thing to happen. And we were pretty excited by the pretty flowers.

You see, the rare flowers attract the rare bugs. These Peacock Butterflies sell for a very high price. And the flowers pollinate and grow more flowers. Eventually we'll wind up with blue flowers all over the island!

Visiting friends! I think this was the first time we did the visit thing, so we posed for an in-game selfie!

During this time of social distancing and staying at home, we had an Animal Crossing party night! My friend called everybody and did a big conference call, and we had a total of 6 people hanging out for the K.K. Slider concert on Saturday Night. Yay staying connected!

We all took turns hosting guests on our islands. One friend had custom art designs on his refrigerator! Check out He-Man's Prince Adam and his classic head-back laugh!

One person had set up a whole outdoor restaurant area! Another friend had a funny waiter outfit all ready to go! Can I get some more bread?

Everybody did a K.K. Slider request at their island. The game credits play during the concert. Normally, when you see game credits, it's like, over and you can stop playing. But this is just any Saturday night in Animal Crossing. There's plenty more to do!
