Snow Day!

SNOW! Alright! I get to take pictures of something besides random shopping oddities. The forecast was for 8-12 inches! Quick! Buy all the Milk and bread! MILK AND BREAD!!! MMIIILLLLKKK AND BBBRREEAAAADD!!!!!! Haha.

This was "the start" of it, when we got home from work early at 3 that day. It was supposed to snow all night until noon the next day!

Got this picture driving to work that morning. What kind of sand castle could we make with all that sand?! Oh, that's for pouring on the streets? What a waste! The Pharaoh wants her pyramid!

Of course the news over-hypes it! For those who don't know, Pat Battle is the local reporter who usually covers the "Somebody is doing this stupid thing" story and talks angrily about it. Probably has something to do with her name, "Pat Battle". So it was extra funny to see her wearing some kind of.. raccoon mitten? Totally out of character for her.

Later that night we peek out of the window to see the snow piling up. Looks like a lot of it so far!

We remembered a few years ago, we had a line of bushes up on the hill, which were crushed under the weight of the snow, removed, and never replaced. We still have a few bushes in front of the windows we did not want to see crushed and removed.

So we grabbed them and gave them a good shaking to get the snow off. It was a small amount of messy fun, for a good purpose.

A little over 6 inches at the time. Would we wake up to twice this amount like they predicted?

Nope! In the morning, the yardstick said almost the exact same thing. Kind of disappointed, but kinda not.

Hey, if you measure over here where the wind blew it all to the side of the building, it's like... almost 11 inches! Yay data manipulation!

There's a car under there somewhere. Experience has taught us that the longer you wait to clean this, the worse it gets, as it melts a little and re-freezes it gets tougher.

Right now the snow is light and fluffy and brushes off easily. I like making these little shelves that fall down. Not on me though, get me outta here!

After cleaning the car, we checked the main road to see if it was worth the effort to get the shovel out to clear the plowed bumper in front of the car, and maybe go to work that day. Looked fine. Ugh.

So here it is. Car all clean, path clear. Who wants to go to work on a day like this? Y'know what?... We didn't! My friend had plenty of un-used vacation days so why not just... use one? Snow Day!

Oh, here's the parking spot they plowed all of the snow into. I don't know if they realized this was the designated "Handicap" spot, so this was kind of a not-cool thing to do.

Now that we had the day off, lets just relax in the toasty apartment and watch the picnic corn. There were little birds picking at it. That was cute to see.

Around noon, and Cornholio is getting some lunch. That's what we've been calling the picnic squirrels, I'm not sure if this is always the same Cornholio. Good to see them keeping a routine about the snacks, even with all the snow.

Well, we have the afternoon off of work, let's go out for a walk! Looks like we are not the only ones who had that idea, as the path has lots of footprints on it already.

Cool looking snow covered tree. Is this weird for the tree? Or do you think they enjoy this change-of-pace? It's not everyday they get piled with snow all on 'em.

While getting a view of this odd branch with tiny snow piles all over it, the snow plow zooms into the picture! It always looks like those plows are having lots of fun, but I'd be worried about plowing into the parked cars myself.

Onto the main nature trail behind the apartment complex. Let's get some awesome snow pictures!

Is this like, rabbit tracks? There's only one set and it leads into the woods. If it was a tiny person, you think they would have come back out.

There's a frozen lake back there. Not a Frozen lake, that would have Elsa on it.

There's a lot of interesting texture going on over in this direction. Lots of sticks and snow contrast. I bet if you looked hard enough, you might find some kind of secret message? No, I did not photoshop any kind of message into this, but that is a neat idea.

Finally see a vast un-stepped-in smooth area of snow. I'd run over there, but someone else might be looking for the same type of photo op and I don't want to ruin it.

How did the snow get all up in this tree hole? It was kinda windy last night, so it must have blown in there somehow.

Check out the little brook over there. The running water prevented it from freezing and it makes for a pretty sight for all the cold but thirsty forest critters.

That's what you would call a "blanket" of snow. It looks like you could just take it off and fold it up, right?

Haha we had to walk over there to get that last picture, and here's my friend's footprints in the snow. I thought that would be a fun picture to get for some reason, like... it seems like the type of picture his Mom would enjoy.

Another smooth field of snow over there where the power lines reach for infinity into the horizon. And the sun peeks through the clouds to warm the day. Listen to me being all poetic.

These Lost Dog fliers have been all around the neighborhood for a few weeks now. I do hope they have found the poor little guy before last night, even though this thing says the flyers will be removed when no longer needed.

I'm not going to end on that sad lost dog photo. Have another not-frozen stream picture. There's more pictures of the snowy nature walk, so stay warm!
