Secret Recipe

This installment of the Minty Show, we have a cooking segment! Followed by some regular random pictures. Enjoy the show!

The last time we visited family, we had a meal with amazing roasted potatoes. When we asked for the recipe, we were handed this box. So... let's try and make some amazing roasted potatoes ourselves!

The recipe required potatoes. We bought a 5 pound bag, but the recipe only called for 2 pounds-worth. We don't have any kind of scale at home, so we need to use... (dramatic noises)... MATH!

Okay, this should be about 2 pounds of them. Did we do the math right? You'd be right to say "no" based on the previous picture. But we had already eaten several of the potatoes before we took that picture. Which only made the math more complicated, as we had to add back in the ones we subtracted earlier. Good catch, if you noticed.

Choppidy-chop. Cut up the potatoes into little wedges. We made them a little small-sized, so they would have more surface area for the stuff. We thought about making thin chip-sized slices, maybe next time we'll try that.

While chopping, we filled up the bin. Too much. We wound up saving a few of those potatoes we measured out. This looked like plenty of potatoes for us anyway.

1/3 cup of olive oil. We do have a thing to measure that. So.. yay. Also, you can see the packet of the spices behind the measuring cup.

Oil poured, spices sprinkled. Oven up to 425. I'm cooking! This is totally what cooking is.

You have to cook them for 35 minutes, stirring "occasionally." So I set my countdown timer to 9 minutes. The idea is that each time the timer goes off, I stir the potatoes, and remove one of the cards. When the cards are all gone and the timer goes off, they are done! Is that too complicated? Maybe.

9 minutes later, and I stir 'em up. It's harder than I expected, as a few of them are sticking to the foil. But I manage okay. Is three "stirs" going to be enough?

Yoink! One card gone. Don't worry, I didn't take a picture of each time I stirred. That would have been silly.

Looks like a lot of the "stuff" stuck to the foil. I think I should have waited a little longer to stir the first time, to allow the stuff to stick more to the potatoes. The second time I did that, and it worked better. We had enough potatoes so I did this again about a week later.

Massive pile of roasted potatoes! Honestly, this is way more than one person should eat. That's what some businesspeople call "a good problem."

They were great! Not "as great" as the family meal was. It's likely because they used "golden potatoes" and we used regular russet potatoes. We didn't think it would make a difference, but I guess it did. Spend the extra money and get the better potatoes.

Okay back to some regular pictures of funny stuff. We caught the text on the box that said "Made in a NUT-FREE Facility" and thought it was funny. Why did they need to point out they did not employ any men? We support all-woman businesses!

Will Sega admit that they mis-spelled Rogue? They can't seriously have wanted to name this character ROUGE the Bat. Every time I see her, I think poor Rogue and her mis-spelled name, and how they had to double-down on it instead of oops-ing the whole mess. You think little kids really know how to pronounce Rouge? It's ridiculous.

At least a modern writer comes up with this clever word play, and names the pirate version Batten Rouge. Good job, writer for the Sonic Prime series.

You need to buy two of these to get M&Ms. If you just buy one, you'll only have an M. Happy Lunar New Year!

His name is Madmartigan. Not Martigan, who is Mad, like... Mad Martigan. It's one word: Madmartigan. And boo on POP! for getting the black-and-white character, but not making the entire box black-and-white. There's plenty of colors on that box! Did nobody point that out to them during production?

Star Wars needs LESS explanations at this point. Make cool looking characters, and let the fans take them on adventures. What were these two really up to? It's so much more fun to imagine it for yourself.

We got a smile out of the giant calendar ad display had Spy Family on it. It's such a cute awesome show. Each of the characters is equally awesome. But little Anya Forger is probably the best.

OOOOOHHHHHH Snap! This is the final mark that tells us the "Covid" era is done. DONE! Nobody taking a full shopping cart full of groceries through the auto checkout just because they don't want a germy employee touching their stuff. Too many people did that for too long, and now they have to put a stop to it. It was always supposed to be a faster option if you only had a few things.

In-no-cent! Anybody remember The Transformers: The Movie? These guys... um this guy? It's got a bunch of faces, is it one guy or a bunch of guys? They were pretty judge-y guys.

Has Pokemon ever done promo big stickers before? It's odd to see, but actually I think it's a cool idea. How cute is the Fidough with the cinnamon bun ears? Fi-dough? Get it? It's a dog.

My friend laughed at the nearly life-sized Elsa head. It's for your kid to brush the hair and stuff. Nothing creepy.

Oh no! I could make some funny comment about that Ant being so large, but my heart is broken with the abandoned plushie. I almost wanted to sit with it, until the owner eventually showed up looking for it. As I walk away, I can imagine they did. Or maybe it found another great home somewhere else.

Manga versions of classic literature! Brilliant! Is there a list of titles they've done somewhere?

My friend doesn't like the Disney Cars due to the lack of people mystery, but you gotta like that character's name. Datz Jammin. Awesome.

Valentine's Day theme aside, little ninja bouncy balls are cool.

Hopefully this joke goes over the kid's heads. It's crude humor but my friend laughed about it a bunch so I'll post it anyway. And THEY did make this, and promote it for the holiday so it's their fault, too.
Hey, c'mon babe... It's Valentine's Day!

What kid is a fan of worms? Is that a little odd? I guess there might be somebody somewhere who wants a plushie worm.

Hahahahaha! It's a football themed package of NERDS! That's like... the opposite of nerds! Did anybody see the Revenge of The Nerds movies? It was nerd VS football players. Not together. They must have done this on purpose just to be funny about it.
