The day after the Taylor Swift concert in New Jersey, we found ourselves in Norfolk, Virginia at a minor-league Hockey game! Not nearly as big as the concert venue, the Norfolk Scope is still a big place and today it was filled with ice to have fun in. A little bit of me wanted to build snowponies but it wasn’t that kind of ice…
Here’s a souvenir we bought. The home team is the Norfolk Admirals, they were playing the Syracuse Crunch tonight. Can you believe the seats we had?! Right next to the protective “glass!” You can’t get any closer than this! Click on “Read more” for more pictures from the game
Here’s a random picture of hockey action. Several times players slammed into the wall right next to us! The wall was already all scratched up, I wonder how often they change these panels?
Here’s a picture of the bottom of the wall. All iced up and frozen. Hmm, maybe I could have built a tiny snowpony? Despite how this looks, it really wasn’t too cold in the arena.
We came to see a hockey game, not a boxing match! Haha that’s a classic hockey saying. Because they fight. A lot. It never really seems too violent, but come on; I thought grown-ups should know better and just talk things over, right?
Here’s a broken stick. It was funny watching a guy play without a stick for a few moments, he kinda stood around and blocked people before he could get a chance to move away.
In between periods, this is called “Chuck-a-Puck.” We bought foam pucks with numbers on them, the goal (no pun intended?) is to throw yours closest to the middle. Watching everyone throw the pucks is pretty fun. You can see the mascot here, a yellow dog named Hat Trick. Of course he’s wearing an Admiral’s hat but "hat trick" is a term for scoring 3 goals.
The final score was 2-0, the Admirals win! Even though hockey usually has low-scoring games, they are still filled with plenty of action and excitement. It was a great time, especially sitting so close.
