The Sauce!

I'm interrupting the Toy Fair posts for a McNugget Sauce? It's a fun story that deserves some telling and I got a bunch of pictures to match.

You may not think this is a big deal, but it sort-of is. Szechaun Sauce was made for the Disney movie Mulan in 1998. Only available for a few months and then never to be seen again.

There's a funny "adult" cartoon show called Rick and Morty about a crazy super-scientist and his grandson's crazy adventures. They had an episode where the scientist Rick was in a brain-analyzing machine, so he could re-live memories. He HAD to stop by McDonald's to get the Szechuan Sauce because it was the only place he could get some, in his memory.

The references to the sauce, it's unavailability, and it's tastiness were fun highlights of the episode. Here's the alien enjoying the sauce. He said it was f-ing amazing.

The episode ends with Rick going into a psychotic ramble to Morty about his ultimate goal was only to get the sauce. If it takes 9 more seasons, 97 years, it's really all about getting more of that tasty sauce. The show is usually very funny, but this was one of the funniest. And the sauce bit had struck a, pun intended, memorable moment for the fans.

So we have a unique situation here. Before this episode, nopony at McDonald's had any thought to bring back this sauce. Why would they? That was nearly 20 years ago. And it's not like they could endorse the show Rick and Morty. It's not the type of family-friendly program that McDonald's would want associated with their image. But fans WANTED it.

So here we have it. A crazy cartoon scientist who prides himself on being able to do the impossible has transcended his art form into reality itself. It's funny ha-ha to laugh at a show and wonder, but this happened. We really had some of this sauce. It's the equivalent of watching Jurassic Park and then actually seeing a real dinosaur. We don't know how much or how long this will last, but go get some while you can! And just in case you are wondering, it IS really good!
