During our recent trip into New York City, after we did a quick stop-in to The Gap that had taken "the spot" from the previous giant Toys R Us store, we walked a little ways... and just on the edge of Times Square we see..... a Toys R Us? We took these pictures and got all excited before well, before... the "Toys R Us boat started to sink."
The entrance almost looks like it's disguised as a subway entrance, with the colored circles. From the outside it looks kind of tiny, but we had to stop in to check it out! It's so sad that just as they came back, they will have to leave again. Maybe they will have another kind of Toy Store here?
Click on the "Read more" below to check! Also in this bunch of pictures is some from the Nintendo Store because, well, just because.
The first thing to notice is the staircase indicating that this store has multiple levels, too. We were pretty tired from walking around all day already, so we were not too thrilled about stairs at this point. We felt a little defeated taking the elevator but glad they had them.
Take a selfie it says! Of course I will! Hurry and get yours while you can.
This animatronic dinosaur is about 1/10th the size of the one at the other store, but it was fun to see they were trying to include it in the smaller space. Wonder what happened to the other one, and what will happen to this one?
Wall of Lego mosaics! Check 'em all out? I think the idea was to make your own with the buckets of nearby bricks.
There was a big play room in the back of the top floor. Big Etch-a-Sketch on the wall and a giant Playmobil Ghostbuster Egon. This looked like a nice break for the parents to sit down while the kids go nuts playing with the toys for a while.
Taking the elevator gave us the cute bonus of hearing the "real" NYC subway announcer voices say things like "please stand clear of the closing doors... [bing bong]."
Mega Bloks, or is it Mega Construx now? Minions in the stairway. Which employee gets to take this home when the store closes?
We were not so tired that we couldn't climb up some stairs to get a picture of these guys. Do you think the same ponies who do the giant Lego statues also do these for Mega Bloks? Or is it different ponies?
Here's pictures from the Nintendo World store. They weren't actually selling the Build-a-Bear Workshop stuff here, but had a nice little display ad. The actual BABW store is close to here anyway but we didn't go today.
We get the feeling they've released like a dozen Kirby games recently? Kirby is always changing into cool outfits here's a big beetle and um, a cupid?
This is a Legendary Pokemon from the new Sun/Moon games. Tapu-something, we forgot his actual name since we changed ours to "Peanut" and that's what we call him now.
The Sun/Moon Pokemon games are themed to be similar to Hawaii in the styles and several have a new variation to match. Here's a Dugtrio with surfer-hairdoes. Like, radical dudes!
These Eevee evolution pillows looked awesome. Would probably look adorable cuddling up on your couch. Who's got a favorite eevee evolution?
If you don't laugh when you see this shirt, it means you have not yet played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Japan-only amiibos on display! From the Monster Hunter games. You can always order them online from somewhere if you NEED a full collection.
Giant Kirby statues says they will ship them to you because who has that much free space in their suitcase?
Is this a Nintendo system? It was first-in-line in the history display so it's gotta be a dinosaur of sorts.
Now this is a neat bit of gaming history. It's sketches of what the Super Nintendo system would look like. Hey, somepony had to do it. Do you ever think about this sort of thing? Check out the near-finished design with all the careful measurements noted.
We are always curious about what's really "the deal" with Mario and Peach. Poor Mario is so patient and loyal to keep rescuing Peach over and over. You can see he is shocked and caught surprised by Peach's rare display of affection on this shirt. This is an "official" shirt at an "official" Nintendo Store, so is this really happening or does it need to be in the game?
