Volcanic Exibit

My friends went to Philadelphia to visit the Franklin Institute science museum and I got to tag along and grab some fun pictures! There was a traveling exhibit from Pompeii which is the first part of out trip through the museum.

For those little ponies who don't know, Pompeii was an ancient Roman city that was quickly covered in heat and ash by a nearby volcano. It was mega tragic but it preserved a ton of artifacts hundreds of years later when they re-found the buried city.

click on the "Read more" to see some real old stuff!

Here's a water fountain and fresco from a garden. There were pipes under this thing and flowing water, seems very advanced for something so long ago?

Check out this table and all of those tiny tiles! It must have taken a long time to make this thing. I can imagine the person who made this would be happy to know it's still around, and somepony it still impressed by the great craftsmanship.

With today's inflation calculated for thousands of years ago, these coins are probably not worth much? Um, what? That's not quite how it works?

This statue of the Goddess Venus shows us that back then, if you were a Goddess and didn't want to wear a shirt, it was okay.

Ironically taking the prize for "most tasteless souvenir" is this Ash Candy. It's nearly 2000 years later, and somehow still inappropriate to make candy out of something that destroyed a whole city?
