After crossing over Route 1 we discovered an abundance of bike riding trails! Very near to the "secret passage" off of the on-ramp there was an entrance to the D&R Canal State Park. So here's some pictures to enjoy!
The smudged glass on this map did not let us get a good photo of it. We looked it up later and the whole thing is like 34 miles long! So that's about as much bike riding as anypony could stand. At the time we didn't know we just hit the trail!
Click on the "Read more" below to see how far we went?
Here's a sign to make sure you clean the bottom of your boats to not spread this Hydrilla stuff. That's a cool villain-sounding name? The evil Hydrilla!
Cool big rocks at the entrance path. It was hot out, and the rocks were cool to sit on. Like temperature cool. And also cool I guess.
A guide to tell you what types of turtles you can see? Where's Donatello and Raphael?
They called this an Aqueduct. How very Ancient Rome-sounding.
We were told that far down the river you can rent canoes and kayaks and stuff. Future adventure? I think I might need a string tied around me for that?
It's a dirt trail! It's very hard compact dirt so it's easy to bike on. At this point we didn't really know what we were in for.
Stopped for a nice picture on this bench. It was a perfect bright day for this.
River to the right of us.
River to the left of us. Note how "into infinity" the trail seems to go?
We sure were enjoying the view! Thanks Millie and Jim!
Here was a collection of algae around this fallen tree. It stunk! Like pretty bad. Ugh why did we STOP to take a picture of this?
There was a kinda lake over there off of the river. Betcha a lot of critters live over there?
We finally reached this thing which the map called a "spillway?" and decided to turn around. We had been out for a while and thought that we needed to turn around before it got too late.
What a view! Check out that tree growing in the middle there like it don't care. Sure has a bunch of water for itself!
