Bored on a weekend, heading into "The City" to walk around for a while. So it's a good chance we'll get some pictures to share.
Passing by this train station; If this town has a local college, it would be Metuchen University, or Metuchen U. When you say that out loud, it sounds like everytime you tell somepony where you went to college, expect them to yell for a security guard.
Click on the "Read more" below for more pictures!
Right out of Penn Station and there's an odd 8-bit Atari 2600 graphics type of statue. Welcome to New York!
Another great thing is 4-story tall video game ads on the sides of buildings. Should we wonder if this ad will pause for 3 minutes while trying to migrate hosts and eventually kick itself off to another building? Because that's what the game does all the time.
Nervous again that the "New York Pizza" will not taste as magically great as I remember, and then... it totally does taste as magically great as I remembered. First random pizza place we found, too. Which was right near Penn Station and super expensive. So do yourself a favor and walk a few blocks in any direction, it will be a lot cheaper and still as tasty.
Macy's window displays! These are a treat to see every year. It would be awesome to get to do this type of art project.
I didn't take pictures of all of the windows, it was basically this "Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Clause" story. Is it terrible that we don't remember the name of that story?
That statue lady is like "ring this bell or I'll waste you!" to those two guys. Hey, you have hammers, you don't have to take that from her!
This must be a huge success to keep doing this every year at Bryant Park. Ice skating ring was Zamboni time when we wandered through.
All sorts of little flea market type shops all over here. We didn't really have time to stop and look at everything. We had some places we wanted to go.
Pickle Me Pete? Fried Pickles! We should have gotten some. And now that we think of it, we don't really know why we didn't.. Is that weird?
How is it that this elevator right in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza is such a secret? It goes down to the food court dining area where the restrooms are.
If you want to know when we visited, look up when the tree was delivered. Because they had just begun putting the scaffolding around it for ornament-hanging access.
Nintendo Labo is a thing where you make cardboard objects that magically interact with the Switch games. In the Nintendo World Store; here's one autographed by super science guy Bill Nye! He named it Scooter.
This should be open by now, but this is where the old NBC Store used to be, right on the corner. Now it's a pop-up resurrected FAO Schwarz toy store!
Hi Today Show! We wondered if we could leave Minty on the window somehow. If I could stay there all week in the corner of the TV camera view. Nopony would notice me or move me. Come back and get me next weekend. How epic cool would that be?
Another secret elevator in The Disney Store in Times Square. This store is wall-to-wall people and nopony uses this thing ever. We joked with one of the employees and said it was actually MORE crowded outside the store.
Times Square. We've pointed this out before, but you can look up year-round and see they New Year's ball and sign up there. So if you are a lost time traveler, and feel embarrassed to ask "what year is it?" You can just come here and look.
What is going on? Can I properly explain our amazement and glee and sort-of terror at seeing Cobra Commander and Destro casually strolling down the street? Good thing Spider Man was right behind them. On a random Saturday in November, my little ponies.
We had been walking around all day on the one slice of pizza, so a chwok-lit snack would have been awesome. But Carlo's Bakery was packed so we didn't want to wait. He's the Cake Boss and pronounces chocolate like "chwok-lit."
Some ponies might think of it as a sort of defeat to settle with Arby's as dinner in NYC. But we have to drive over a half hour to get to the Arby's near us in NJ, and it was right next to us when we finally got really hungry. Link there on the Nintendo World bag is saying "don't judge me!"
Wandered back through the Winter Village on the way back to the train station.
This one is for my friend who is probably thinking "You're my little Russian Dumpling" to somepony right now.
We were there at 9pm which is apparently when everything was closing for the night. The guy at the Strand book store closed the door in our face. Y'know, in a polite sort of way.
Haha Zamboni again. What are the odds of that?
We took a picture of the map in the dark. So it's blurry and you can't read anything. But just looking at the amount of text on this map, you can tell there's a lot of shoppes here.
Parking the zamboni. We briefly thought about skating for a bit, but the wait was probably insane so we didn't even bother checking.
Even though everyplace was closing. Almost everypony was holding a churro and talking about churros. The line at the churro place was crazy!
Got a picture of the Russian nesting dolls display here. "You're my little Russian nesting doll?"
Right as they were closing, we jumped into this store and snapped a picture of the wooden spoons. To torment my friend of course.
Hey Gertrude Stein, your statue looks really creepy in the dark. Just thought you might like to know. You creepy.
On the way back to Penn Station, saw this robot in the window of a bank. This is the horrific real-person version of an automatic answering machine. To speak to a representative, say "I'd like to speak to a REAL PERSON AAARRGHHH!" .....I'm sorry, I did not understand you.
Billy Joel! Playing at Madison Square Garden!!! Oh, that's nothing to get too excited about he does that all the time here. Still he's a pretty amazing; we went to his concert in Virginia a few years ago.
Here's the train schedule for the ride back home. I'll mention that we made it all the way down without the ticket guy punching our ticket! So that's a free ride up next time! It's rare but sometimes you get lucky like that.
