More pictures from the 2020 New York Toy Fair! This group is um... like video games and anime stuff. Kind of. I was a little sloppy grouping the pictures together this year, it's a lot to organize!
The Arcade 1Up cabinets are exploding in popularity, so it's cool they get to expand the choices with new games. They are even trying to do pinball machines! Except these have computer screens where the pinball stuff would go. I guess they were not fully ready to try yet, as they were rotating behind the "velvet rope."
Table versions! Fun trivia fact about Pac-Man: They were originally going to call him "Puck Man" but thought that the word "Puck" could be easily vandalized changing the "P" to an "F". Can you imagine if they didn't think of that in time?
Check out the Star Wars arcade game with the crazy control stick! This also shows the bench thing attachment, instead of the usual riser platform. Feels more like flying an X-Wing?
I've got a friend who's a huge Burgertime fan. He pre-ordered one of these limited edition cabinets, and here it is! It's just as awesome as you think it's going to be. How many burger restaurants had one of these machines in them?
Characters from Fate: Grand Order. In the middle is Jeanne d'Arc Alter, she's got the highest attack stat in the whole game. Based on her burning rage, um... literally. Was that joke in bad taste? Remember what happened to Joan of Arc? This version of Jeanne d'Arc was mad about it, too.
Mic test one two. There was a lot of Chip and Dale merchandise, always fun to see my friend's favorites.
That is some high quality on this Man-at-Arms figure. How did Masters of The Universe pull off such iconic unique character designs that somehow feel very simple and generic at the same time?
Final Fantasy VII characters in all of their Playstation 2-era polygon glory. At one time, this was cutting-edge graphics. If you can believe that.
Not quite sure why I put this picture here in this group of pictures. Being at the Toy Fair is like seeing all of this stuff without pause, you have to switch interest gears as you walk around a lot.
Pikachu!, Hit 'em with a Frontside 180 Tail Grab! Skateboarding is in the Olympics, right? Do you think we'll see a bunch of these there in Tokyo?
Pokemon is infamous for NOT giving away promo cards at the Toy Fair. We ask every year. It was a little surprising that they did have these Burger King Crown-like paper hats. We got the Sobble since that's the starter we chose for Pokemon: Shield.
This Gremlins display was amazing. How do they even do this? So much detail! The Gremlins must be actual figures, but do they really sell this whole bar scene?
Just me and my pal Ripley cautiously walking around this space corner. Surely there's nothing.... right..... behind us!
Every so often, you see a pro video blogger filming and talking into a microphone. I'm tempted to make some kind of recognizable noise in the background so that I could seek them out and point it out later. You hear that WHOOP WHOOP? That was ME! Haha.
I thought they already made the Back to The Future cartoon series. It's called Rick and Morty.
Are they doing a Bill and Ted animated series, too? Or are these figures just from like, a cartoon-concept style? Lots of time travel going on around here.
1000 cool points if you can recognize these characters and where they came from. I'll give you a hint, it's the movie versions.
Giant Gundam! Sorry we are not familiar enough with the anime to know exactly who this is, but if there's a giant statue, it must be a cool character. Is there something with the red, white, and blue color scheme? 'Merica!
Awwwww yeah. What power level is blue-haired Goku? That's like the best one, right? Goku is like the Batman of anime. In any kind of comparison, he beats everybody.
Haha I didn't notice when I took this picture that the book is blocking the face of Gilgamesh. From Fate: Grand Order. The Babylonia chapters of the game were really fun with interesting characters and stuff.
Not as much Love Live stuff this year, but we did see a little bit. Here's the 2nd Year students from Aqours. They live in a beach town, that's what the whole beach thing is for. Is it weird to see the school girl outfits on a beach?
My friend is trying to get us to watch this Demon Slayer anime. He says it's pretty good. We saw a lot of figures for it, so there must be some kind of fandom around it.
Having no context, I can't know how awesome this figure could be. I'm sure I'll get around to watching it, so it will be interesting to go back to these pictures and get excited later.
Wat up, Smoke? How's the show going for you so far? Hey watch where you aim that thing! What? Finish ME?! I am SO outta here!
How can his NAME be "Axe Battler" and he does NOT have an axe? He's from the Sega game Golden Axe, but the dwarf had the axe. He must be like "Thanks Mom for naming me Axe, but really I prefer using a sword."
How is there a Metal Mario plushie? Not logical.
Two versions of Luigi's Mansion Luigi. It's cute to see him scared but it's good that they have a brave version, too.
These Kingdom Hearts figures have to win some kind of award for cutest-ever. I mean, look at that King Mickey! Soooooo cute!!!!
More merchandise from the Demon Slayer anime, that I'm sure I'll be more interested in once I get around to watching it. I should probably include some kind of comment that's not very insightful, like um... the checkerboard pattern on his cape seems kind of neat at least.
Ha-do-ken! Oh wait, that's Street Fighter. I'm probably safe standing here, right? It takes Goku a while to say the whole Kameha-meha thing so I'll move away in like, five minutes or so.
Final Fantasy VII spoiler alert.... Um, it's called a HEALING POTION. Seriously she'd died like eight times already and all we have to use is a Phoenix Down and some healing potions. Oh Aerith; the victim of poor game design and mechanics that don't let you use items during cutscenes. I mean, I get it that you want dramatic storytelling, but don't tell me she's dead when we know we have items to bring her back. Look, I've got 99 Phoenix Downs in my inventory, right now.
We picked up this Mash Kyrielight charm at the anime store later that night. What's most amazing about this, is that it was NOT in a "random blind box" which is like, a rare thing these days. It's sooo much better getting the exact figure you want without spending tons more and winding up with dozens of figures you don't want. Only $8, and done. Just have to appreciate that for a minute.
