Toy Fair 2020 Hobby Games

This group of pictures from the 2020 New York Toy Fair is mostly like, hobby games and stuff. I was organizing the photos and wound up with a lot of those.

This is the Annoying Flying Unicorn. Doing a good job of getting your attention right at the entrance. We're fans of the Unstable Unicorns card game, so we were looking forward to seeing what they had here, and seeing a big carpet ad right as soon as we walk in was exciting.

There was some game called Dungeon Drop that involved spilling out tiny cubes everywhere. Do you need some kind of magic spell to see if there are numbers? Are those tiny dice or just colored cubes? I bet you just reach in and grab some without looking.

HeroClix had WWE Wrestler figs. That set over there was all kinds of nostalgic epic-ness. It says Rock n Sock Connection! Are you kidding me? That's so awesome! That's possibly the most charismatic tag team duo ever; Dwayne Johnson and Mick Foley. The Rock would get mad when Mankind did his catchphrases and moves. I mean, the figures are doing the same pose! If you smelllllllll what the SOCK is cooking!

Paint-your-own pony! Pro-tip: Minty was re-colored from an Applejack pose, check out our similar hair ties and tail tie. So I guess if you want a Minty, you should get that one and paint it to look like me. I guess I'll have to wear a hat.

You can re-paint your favorite Transformer in funky colors. Good luck painting the tiny Autobot and Decepticon icons.

You know they also sell modular dungeon pieces to go along with your D&D tabletop gaming miniatures? You can paint these, too. Those stairs have slots in them for the figure bases, so you can still stand them in the middle of it. I'm lost, where's the treasure?

Spell effects! I cast Triangle of Fire to protect myself! Check out the rope trick going on behind me.

Shout out to that Purple Dragon! For no reason. Just pointing out the Purple Dragon.

If this is only a prop replica, why do I feel so weak right now... I can... barely....

Oh that's the word I was trying to think of... Escrima. These are Nightwing's Escrima Sticks. Haha what's an escrima? Also, you'd think the futuristic Batman Beyond Batarang would look more like a normal bat? Did bats change in the future?

Model video game consoles? What an odd idea. Gotta admit they look pretty cool though.

This Spider was assembled out of wooden slab pieces. As complicated as this looks, it was also motorized and animated! All the legs crawling forward. That's some great engineering!

I put a picture of a giant Gundam in the anime group of pictures, but here's a different one to include in the hobby group. Because these things are giant model kits. I wonder if this one was? You think they had to put it together?

15 Minutes to Self Destruct? Ain't noboby got time for that! How about we make it 5 minutes? If this is like a professional basketball or football game, you know 15 minutes could take like a whole hour to play.

I need to find a way to start a conversation with Olaf over there. Anybody have any tips on any good ice breakers?

Finally made our way over to the Unstable Unicorns booth, by TeeTurtle. They got good artists and clever games designers. What's new?

We were not expecting something as cool as Unstable Unicorn figures! Necromancer Unicorn was the only prototype that was painted. We were told these are planned to be sold in blind boxes, with matching cards to insert into your games. Also varying rarities among the figures so some would be more powerful cards and harder to collect.

Zoomed out so you can see some of the other prototype figures. We told them we like this idea a lot. So if you were wondering if this was a fun game, apparently we are not the only ones to think so, if they are getting this type of support added.

Also surprised they were giving away free enamel pins! We checked online, these are available for like $5 each.

There were t-shirts, too. That's not very surprising considering the TeeTurtle company was already doing awesome t-shirts, we have a lot of those already!

This little bunny wants to be a unicorn, too! Awwwww!

More prototype figures. Remember if you play the Ginormous Unicorn, you cannot play Neigh cards. we keep forgetting.

Stabby the Unicorn has a knife for the horn. Do you think he's a real unicorn, or just a horse with a knife on his head? Who wants to know?

If the Neigh cards were not annoying enough already, have a big 'ole button on the table to announce you playing it! It says "Neigh!" in various ways, of course. If you don't know, this is like, the best part of the game. Or worse part, if you were just about to win.

They had a demo for a new game called Here to Slay. Some kind of RPG style game.

Also had a lot of accessories for this one. If we had more chances to play games, we'd think about picking this up.

Board game enthusiasts call those wooden tile character outline tokens "meeples" and sometimes you can see custom designs for games, like these here. And another prototype figure for a Here to Slay character.

Aww! Mother Goose Unicorn! Reading a story to a cute Baby Unicorn! Made funny by the fact it's right next to Extremely Destructive Unicorn. That's the sort of humor to expect here.

We thought it would be cool to get a picture of the Dark Angel Unicorn. Mostly because....

This is the free pin we got. It's the Dark Angel Unicorn. We were really just hoping to see some cards, but they had a whole lot more to offer. And if you are looking for something a little more advanced than Uno to play, Unstable Unicorns is about that same style of play, only a smidge more complicated but a lot more entertaining.

When we got back home, we checked out our free miniature from Games Workshop. Like the world's smallest model kit. I pulled the pieces using my bare hooves but that was a terrible idea since some of the pieces were thinner than the connections to the frame. I nearly ripped the staff apart. Use some clippers or a knife or something.

Good thing there was some instructions included on how to put this guy together. He even has a little pile of rocks in front of him. It's a very dynamic pose. Why did I think about cutting off a few of his fingers on that hand, to make it appear like he's giving a different gesture? Haha.

According to the book, this guy is a Knight-Incantor. Having no idea how to play this game, he sounds like he's an okay warrior based on these ability descriptions. I mean, this guy carries around soul flasks he can smash. We don't have any pictures of him painted, he didn't come with any paint.
