Foods! I held off posting any food pictures from our Disney World trip, so I could put them all together. That way you can get hungry once. What are we hungry for? It's probably here somewhere.
Pizza Pizza! On the first night of our trip... A quick reminder that we had planned on staying at our friend's relative's house, but ended up in a hotel instead. Either way, we were planning on a simple pizza pizza dinner. We were so excited we each got our own pizza but obviously that was a mistake, a half-pizza would have been just fine.
The next morning, the hotel breakfast had some kind of printer... for pancakes! Look in the window there, you can see it squirts a blob of batter which rolls along under the cooker. It was silly and awesome at the same time.
Boom! Two mini pancakes with each print button. As crazy as this thing was, the bottom line is that the pancakes were good pancakes. Yay technology!
A favorite of mine, the ham and cheese croissant at the France area in the World Showcase. It was right before lunch but I got one anyway.
I had forgotten about these cookies here, with the massive squares of chocolate in them. Every time I see them, I SOOOOO want one, but manage to resist. One of these days I'll get one.
Sometimes you gotta do what makes you happy. If that means having a Ham and Cheese Croissant, then that's a small enough thing to do. Happiness doesn't have to be complicated. There were no seats so we had to find a corner to sit down for a minute.
Soon after, we had a proper lunch at the "America" restaurant. I mean, technically they are all in America, but you know what I mean, right?
Pot roast and mac n' cheese! Due to the free lunch provided by the Galactic Starcruiser booking, and the fact that we skipped it and ate lunch on the ship, and we disembarked this morning, so this counts as a cruise-day... this meal was free! Was that too much explaination? Or would you rather talk about yummy pot roast? I mean, look at that perfect piece of toast!
On our "break day" we ventured out of the Disney Parks to a restaurant called Buca di Beppo. If you've heard of it, you're excited we went! It's an Italian place that's a little wacky, in a good way.
Plenty of tacky Italian decorations all over this place. Good-tacky, of course.
So. Much. Italy. Everywhere. We met up with our friend's family, who all took a trip down to Disney. So there was a lot of us here.
It's been a while since I've done the Italian restaurant bread-thing where you dip it in the olive oil. That was an unexpected blast of nice memory to have.
The big "Gimmick" of Buca di Beppo is that the food is ordered in outrageous sizes. Look at this one portion of lasagna! You can't finish this all by yourself!
You want a meatball? We got-a your meatballs!
So the end result around this place is ordering and sharing. If you stop to think about it, it turns into a big math equation about who wants what, and how many people can this one thing serve, and sure I'll have some of that... The danger is over-ordering. But there was a lot of us, so that wasn't too big of a problem this time. We did pretty good actually. Aside from that kind of odd complication, the food was tasty, too. If you were wondering.
Of course this place has a wall of celebrity photos of famous people who have done "The Beppo". Should we add Minty to this wall? HA! Wouldn't that be awesome?!
One morning during our day at Animal Kingdom, my hungry friend decided to have a pre-lunch boost at this place. It was kind of an impulse but turned out to be a great idea.
A Pineapple Crisp Sundae at Tamu Tamu is the new "I'm going to have one each time I go here" thing. As soon as my friend got some of this ice cream in his mouth, it was like that scene from Ratatouille with the instant-flashback: There was a restaurant called Old Country Buffet, which is gone now, but it had a soft-serve ice cream machine that was "magically" the BEST ice cream ever. And this is it. It still exists! You can get some of that magical ice cream! On top of that, with the pineapple crispy cake, pineapple caramel, and pineapple crunchies... well, even before he was done with it, he wanted another! Of course he didn't over-do it, but I can't speak highly enough of this masterpiece.
As a service and a reminder, I took a far-away picture of the place, so you'll know what to look for. There's a shaded eating area behind it, you might be able to see the entry right under the Wild Africa Trek sign to the left.
For lunch at Animal Kingdom, we had Flame Tree Barbecue baked macaroni and cheese with pulled pork. I had this the last time I was in Animal Kingdom, so I was excited to share the yummy meal with everybody else this time.
We didn't get one, but I snapped a picture of this cupcake which was very tempting. What a work of art.
Good. All of it. There's pulled pork, mac n cheese, cole slaw, onion rings. Every bit good.
Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern, in The Magic Kingdom. I've been here before, but we travelled with friends and of course you want them to eat in the best places, too.
This place is another buffet-of-sorts. They bring out large portions to share, and if you want more, you ask them and they keep bringing it. We all lost track of how much pot roast and mashed potatoes they brought.
We had soooo much pot roast, we could barely have any ice cream for dessert. But ugh, somehow, we managed. Haha that's what you call "a good problem."
Simple easy lunch in Epcot, chicken sandwich and fries. Boring? Eh, it was an above-average chicken sandwich and fries. After this lunch our one friend retreated back to the hotel with not-feeling-wells. He's recovered by now but at the time it was a total bummer for us all.
Later that night while scrambling around Epcot again to find something to eat for dinner, my one friend who was valiantly sticking to no-carb food restrictions, wound up having this cheese sampler as a meal. It was our treat, out of simpathy, and he recalled the meal as similar to a challenge on Survivor. Where each cheese was more foul than the last one. Knowing he had to eat "something" he bravely choked them all down. What a trooper, he wins immunity. Later that night we bought him a sub sandwich at the hotel and he just ate all the meat from the middle of it. I forgot to get a picture of the sandwich, but the cheeses is the more-interesting part of the story.
Despite the cheese fiasco, we doubled-up on the Ham and Cheese Croissants. So extra-yums for us at least. The hard part was finding someplace to sit, which we didn't, and had to stand up and eat these next to a railing. Almost the whole time we were standing and eating, there was two different tables, each with one person not eating "holding it" for groups that showed up just about when we were done. Ugh. We chose to not let it "get to us" and instead just kind of laughed at the outrageous lack of awareness.
