If you missed it before, and before that, we're in the middle of our actual Star Wars story. So if you need to, check back a couple of posts to catch up on our trip aboard the Starcruiser Halcyon, and this bunch of pictures from our trip off-ship to the planet Batuu.
Batuu! With the planet coordinates, if that matters to you. The only way to see this sign is when you leave the docking location of the transport shuttle. This alley is only for Halcyon passengers to use.
Ad for Oga's Cantina. We had already booked reservations there, and each had a secret mission there, as well as secret missions all around this place.
Halcyon passengers get free Dasani water bottles! Special Star Wars in-universe versions. We should have taken a dozen of these, as it was HOT. That's not a good enough word, it was um... scorching? Three-suns-worth of hot?
Hurray! Planet! Technically, this is the Galaxy's Edge part of Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park, and we could technically leave and do more of the other areas. But of course we chose full-immersion and never left the adventure. And there was plenty of adventure to be had!
A few of us had already been here, and a few of us had not. As part of the Starcruiser adventure, it felt a lot more "real" as we had to find places, scan things, and treat it with a sense of purpose that didn't exist without the adventure. So the cruise enhanced the park itself.
Awwwwwww yeah. The Milennium Falcon. Our adventure included smuggling coaxium fuel to help the Resistance. That's what we are here for. The "ride" is just a bonus.
Halcyon passengers, going on official Star Wars adventures, get to skip the line. We are doing important quests, we don't have time for that!
Hondo was on the monitor today. Usually he's standing up on the platform up there. He apologized for it.
We were rushed through the ride almost too fast, and I only got a picture of my gunning score when the ride was over. My friend later pointed out it almost matched our room number on the ship, but not exactly, as we were in room 5-205.
Our two groups split up to do different adventure stuff. Did I mention two of us were doing missions for the Resistance, and two of us were helping the First Order? That was a great idea because there was a bunch of fun stuff we got to share later. Here we were outside Dok-Ondar's shop.
Stormtroopers hovering around the Droid Depot, we had to dodge them to interact with some scanners and get some codes to unlock SK-620.
We saw some Mandalorian guy walking around, he had some kind of small creature with him. I think he called it Grogu? A lot of people seemed really excited to see them. The little guy was pretty cute. Oh, who am I kidding? GROGU and THE MANDALORIAN! AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!
Whew. That was exciting. Photo ops were had. Our next mission was to check out the Resistance base reported in the area. This was new to me, as this ride was not yet opened last time I visited Batuu.
Once again, we get free pass around the line, and right onto the ride. Yay adventure! Here's a neat waterfall, and torture for us on this very hot day as we all wanted desperately to jump over there.
The hallway had these lights in the wall, which reminded me of an old ride at Busch Gardens called Questor. Sorry that nobody is going to get that reference.
Hologram Rey shows up to ask us to help out. My friend points out his amazement that there seems to be no screen or water-mist or anything around that image. It really looks like a hologram above an empty table!
Poe's X-Wing and BB-8! We really did stumble upon the Resistance base! Our group is loaded onto a transport vessel that is ambushed by a First Order fleet and is taken aboard. I don't know if you want the "ride" spoiled, so you may want to skip a few pictures if you want to. But this is part of our adventure!
We are herded into hallways on the Star Destroyer, to be interrogated. The First Order officers were being rude and demanding, was it part of the immersion?
Check out the droid access circle thing. Our friends who were working for the First Order wanted to yell out "Contact our friend Lt. Croy, he will sort this all out!" But we were all put into a room before that could happen.
Can you believe we're not really on "the ride" yet? The short version is that the Resistance busts us out and loads us onto these droid cars which will guide us to escape pods, to get us off the Star Destroyer. The chase through the ship is the core of the ride.
Whew! Off the ride, we all immediately get update messages for our adventure, and reports of a Star Destroyer being lost. Yay for the Resistance! But the extra fun came from our friends working for the First Order. They get a bad-news message; this does not look good for the First Order. But are able to respond: don't worry, we just found out the location of the Resistance base! ...Perhaps this wasn't a loss after all!
Our datapad ap that tracks our adventure also lets us scan the various crates around the planet. See that odd symbol? That's what you scan. I point out this one specifically because it says this container is full of "Spice". Which it says is used to "flavor food". Some people think Star Wars uses the word spice as a reference to drugs, but this confirms it's not. Officially.
Speaking of spice, We get our visit to Oga's Cantina. We had to tell the server that Oga had some info for us, and show a code from our ap. She sneaks us special coasters which have another thing to scan, and secrets obtained!
As part of the bar experience, I order special drinks for everybody and start to sip on mine like a normal person. Everybody else almost immediately chugs theirs. Gulp. Gone. That's not how a bar works! Argh. To be fair, it was mega hot, and we all needed gallons of water, but still, those drinks were not cheap.
Off in the distance we catch Kylo Ren showing up and menacing the poor incompetent First Order guy. Not our guy from the ship adventure, just some random other First Order guy. Then he takes some troopers and starts wandering around.
While telling my friends to check out the landspeeders, we spot Rey and Chewy! But they immediately duck for cover, and we get to watch as Kylo Ren wanders by. So a small bonus show as they hid from him. I tried to point them out on the picture here with labels, but I used a very small font. Oops.
One of the only places we missed was Cargo Bay 7, the restaurant. Seems like none of our missions took us through here. So I made a point to walk through it so our friends would get a chance to see it. Before this we had to go to the other restaurant and shut off the pod racer engine for the hacker that lived nearby.
As I look at this picture, I realize I did not go back to investigate what this is and where to get it. Looks like some kind of neat beverage container with a strap for carrying. And I kinda wanted to get one. Maybe next time?
Our First Order friends had a mission near this shuttle to lock it down from Resistance tampering. It was near the First Order themed gift shop, too.
I have a different batch of pictures with merchandise, but here's the escape shuttle from the Resistance ride, and the droid that kind of rescued us.
