We didn't even feel like wandering around the mall on a lazy Saturday but found ourselves there anyway. This bunch of pictures is not about the mall, but the Go Calendar store had these ads on the counter, which was... tomorrow! And this was pretty close to the Arby's we venture to, so that's a plan to go get some pictures to share!
We checked out the website before we decided to go, and found out it was a simple gathering of local comic vendors and not much else. The $3 admission fee was pretty low and at the very least, we'd enjoy some Arby's for lunch.
I'll plug the Holiday Inn Express for hosting this thing. Looked like a pretty standard hotel with the usual hotel stuff. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, so that's a little odd being in a hotel outside of a vacation in the middle of town.
Nothing goes over Drax's head. He has quick reflexes and would catch it. Geeky thing to notice that the Guardians of The Galaxy "movie" version of Drax is grey, while the "comic book" version was green. So technically this is the wrong Drax to advertise a comic event. But me pointing that out is very much in the spirit of a comic event.
Yep. This is about what we expected. One outer ring of tables and one inner ring of tables, and that's about it. Still there's a lot of cool stuff crammed in here, let's see if we can find any treasures!
This corner was so packed full of POP! Figures that even though it was 2:50 they were already starting to pack it up. Not that we NEED any more POP! Figures, but it was an odd amount of pressure trying to look while it slowly disappeared.
Alright! Mystery Mini figures that you normally have to get in random boxes, here for the pickin's! We didn't find any we wanted, but it's still awesome to see this type of thing.
What the Smurf? Did you know they had Garbage Pail Kids figures? Not that we have a favorite, but maybe we could research that a little more. My friend had tons of those cards when he was growing up.
Under the tables were bins full of figures. That's one big Royal Rumble going on in that bin!
There was an impressive amount of comics there, so we took a moment to flip through to see if we could find anything interesting. I took this picture of a Starfleet Academy comic which had fan-favorite character Nog on it. Between the time I took this picture, and the time I write this, I found out that Nog's actor, Aron Eisenberg, had just passed away. Sorry for the sad news. Let's all raise a glass of rootbeer for our pal Nog!
Okay let's lighten the mood with a Marvel rip-ff of DC's Wonder Woman with their own Wonder..."Man"? C'mon that's pretty weak. Even Spiderman right next to him is thinking "Really dude? How can you even... Wonder Man? So lame."
While checking the random bins, my friend found this pack of dollar-store soldiers. It's complicated to explain why this caused a small amount of emotional devastation to him, but it has something to do with the location he remembered this from, and how he kind of wanted it but never got it. And now could not get it even if he wanted. Told you it was complicated. Shake it off.
There was one table there with the "expensive" comics. If only everyone would have know that a Superman and Green Latern comic bought in 1980 for a mere 50 cents would be worth $1000. That's the dream, everybody!
It was a little shocking to see these type of books here, comic fans are typically very shy about these subjects. The super hero morals of decency and chivalry wouldn't allow it.
This was only slightly tempting but my friend already had the actual Splash Mountain ride POP! Figure which is much better anyway.
Among the strangest thing we saw was a Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness crossover book. If anything deserves to get a "WTF" it's this. Seriously... WTF! If EVERYBODY buys this, you think they'll make a movie out of it?
There was a table which had knock-off Lego minifigs from properties that Lego doesn't do. Zoom in and see if you can spot anything familiar. I'll point out the upper right had Trump figures wearing red MAGA hats. Haha Lego is not going to really make one of those.
Lots of POP! Figures. Check out Upside Down Will from Stranger Things in the bottom corner of this picture. He's upside-down in the box haha.
This cheered up my friend to see classic G.I.Joe characters Tomax and Xamot. They are the Crimson Guard Commanders, and twins who use stereotypical "twin powers" like feeling eachother's pain and knowing what the other is thinking exactly. While he didn't get them, he recognizes the local shop they are from and might go later if he changes his mind.
Masters of the Universe character Modulok! He was like a Lego version of a figure where you could pull of his limbs and assemble him in many ways. Of course He-Man always smashed him to pieces.
By the time we got around to checking out this table full of old movies, he was packing them away. There might have been some treasures in here. Zoom in and check? I guess it helps if you actually have something in mind first.
Maybe more WTF than the Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness was this Scooby Apocalypse comic. Like Zoiks! Those zombies are looking for a whole different type of "Scooby Snack." And maybe a Shaggy Snack, a Fred Snack.... you get the idea.
They guy selling those fake Lego figures also had actual Lego figures from sets sold individually. We picked up a couple old rare figures and a couple from an expensive set. Check out that tiny Jack figure and the Giant from the Beanstalk! That's an $80 set but we got this figure for only $5!
