Sunrise, Unicorns, & Scroll Magic

One last bunch of pictures from our short vacation in the Outer Banks.

My friend wanted to see if he could get up early and catch a sunrise. It sounded like a fun adventure, so we set an alarm and here we are. The awesome camera on this new phone doesn't want to show how properly dark it was outside. But this was a minute before the sun was scheduled to peek over the horizon.

The beach was totally deserted (is that a sand pun?), so we thought it would be neat to climb up on the lifeguard tower for a better view. Are we allowed to do that? That's cool, right?

The sky was gray-clouded and mega windy. We couldn't tell if it was drizzle-rain or wind-blown seawater blasting us in the face. At least it wasn't full-blown raining on us.

Check out those waves! Cowabunga! Just seeing them makes me want to learn to surf. Why are there no surfers out here? It was soooo windy, it was hard to have a conversation! After 20 minutes or so, we realized those clouds had to be blocking the view. Surely we would be seeing something by now.

It looked like you could see the clouds raining in the distance. It was so windy and miserable outside. At least it was early enough to still go back to sleep when we were done here.

We waited over an hour and indeed no Sun was seen. My friend said he was going to give it a 1 star review on Yelp. #nosun #boo

We passed this crushed Phillies hat on the street. Later we saw somebody wearing another one but didn't have a chance to ask him if he lost his hat earlier.

The time share has fun activities you can sign up for. Like Giant Kerplunk. Which just sounds silly.

Pinkie Pie in the claw machine! Gotta get a picture of that. She's too close to the side to get without a massive amount of work.

Anybody you want to take to the Axe Throwing place? I want you to stand right over there...

Lunch at Capt. Frank's. It's only a tradition because it's sooo good. And something we look forward to.

Didn't take a picture of the hot dogs this year, we all know they are amazing. Got a picture of the licenses plates hanging from the ceiling. There's one from your pal, D.

We did a small amount of tourist-shopping after lunch. We thought these were funny using the Star Wars font.

"Killer Bees." Don't blame them, they told you right in the title of the product it's going to kill you. Yikes what a horrible thing to joke about!

I'm not so sure about this statement. You can get some pretty expensive jewelry. I think this is supposed to say "shoes" or something.

When we got back, we decided to play a card game called Unstable Unicorns. It's got cute graphics made by the Tee Turtle people.

While reading the flavor text of this card my friend was saying "pound no makeup, pound no filter, pound sunnies, pound shameless, pound selfie..." When somebody stopped her and said "don't you mean "Hashtag?!" And we all had a big laugh out of it.

I took extra pictures of the cards because the game just would not end. When somebody was close to winning, everybody teamed up to make sure it wouldn't happen. Nobody wanted to give up, yet we all wanted it to end. Even through all of the torture we had a fun time with it. The box says 30-45 minutes, but our game took three and a half hours! That's about the length of an average Superbowl.

Some notable cards. Later I internet-asked the Tee Turtle people if you could use the Unicorn Lasso to grab the 7th Unicorn to win, and they said no, it has to return and you wouldn't win. So in case you try it and come across that question yourselves. It didn't matter in our game but came up. The game ended wrongly when somebody played a Neigh card to stop the last counter that would have prevented them from winning, which they could not have done while they had the Ginormous Unicorn out. We quickly realized the error but all the cards were already shuffled back together and we couldn't take it back.

For dinner that night, our Hosts had brought some pulled pork. We convinced them we need to "Wizard Scroll" it and got some croissants earlier. The pulled pork was a lot messy and they didn't really roll up all that well, but we were determined to try, and confident the magic would still happen.

This was the most we've tried cooking at once, and we carefully watched them to make sure they were done enough and not burnt. Switching the trays from top to bottom a few times.

They came out awesome. Every last one of them were gobbled up. There was a few bags of chips involved but almost no chips were needed or had. Big success on the Wizard Scrolls made my Wizard friend happy.
