Stellar Foods

Exploring the Black Spire Outpost on planet Batuu also includes exploring the local foods. So this group of pictures is all about that. It may look weird and have funny names, but honestly everything we ate there was amazing.

The small lunch restaurant is cooking some kind of meat under this um, podracing engine? It's swaying back and forth slightly and looks really cool. I mean hot. I guess this is safe... Is there a space OSHA?

The droid working the food engine looks like 8D8 who you might remember from the "torture" scene in Jabba's Palace, where he was pressing hot pokers to the feet of a screaming power droid. If this is the same droid after he left Jabba's employment, I guess he just has a thing for um, heating. It's good to follow your passions.

You can zoom in to read the menu over there. This place sure looks authentically run-down, with that rusty fan and broken wall tiles. It's brand new but looks like it's been here for a hundred years.

Check out the soda fountains. The names are in the Aurebesh language and the hoses go to those rusty tanks above.

Food pics! Here's the Ronto Wrap. It's like a spicy hot dog wrapped in roast pork, with coleslaw in a pita shell. It was super good. That drink is called a Tatooine Sunset and is like a ice tea mix of a lot of different flavors.

Later that day we tried the "green milk" from The Last Jedi. My friend made sure to chug some and then wipe his mouth just like Luke Skywalker did, haha. It had a kiwi sort of flavor, also great. That metal thing next to the cup is a Spira Coin, the local currency of Batuu. It's basically like a gift card, you "buy" one for $100 and then use it to pay for things, like a local. Once the money is gone, you got a "free" collectible souvenir!

I wonder how's the food at Docking Bays 1 through 6? We can only get to Docking Bay 7 here on the Black Spire Outpost.

This is the menu from Docking Bay 7, the larger restaurant. Notice the menu does kind of translate the confusion and says "chicken" and "pot roast" and stuff, but the soda flavors are still shown in aurebesh language logos.

The food comes out of the back room. Are there droids back there running the kitchen?

Here's my dinner Fried Tip-Yip. It's a giant chicken nugget "log" over mashed potatoes and some kind of green sauce. It looked like real chicken in this thing but it was too big to be non-nugget, if that makes sense. It was very good if you need to ask. This place used to have "space forks" but people were taking them home and now we get regular non-space forks.

This place was oddly not busy. I don't know if it was a slow time for dinner, or if people did not want to have space food adventures with the local cuisine. Or maybe the food in neighboring Toy Story Land was where all the kids dragged the parents?

Oga's Cantina! It totally fits with Disney's new policies on serving alcohol in the theme parks, that they can put an actual bar in this space port. My friend doesn't drink alcohol but there's other space drinks in here for him.

You have to wait in line to get in this place, even with a reservation. So make sure you book a reservation well in advance if you are going to travel to Batuu. They hand out menus to browse while you wait.

Yikes that Porg cup is expensive! Does this menu confirm that the blue milk comes from the Bantha creatures? That's the big horned mammoth things that the Tuskin Raiders were riding on Tatooine.

The Cantina has a sensor at the entrance like the one on Tatooine, that went off when Artoo and Threepio tried to walk past and the droid-ist bartender shouted he doesn't serve "their kind" in here. Remember that? Yeah, not so funny anymore.

Waiting in line to get in, seating is quite random, you go where they can fit you. We got to sit at the bar which was perfect. Check out DJ R3X over there rocking the tunes in the place. It wasn't so loud, you could still have a conversation.

Check out all the crazy stuff going on behind the bar. See the tank up there with the creature in it? That thing is supposedly responsible for the little spheres in the drinks.

Of course we took home the coasters. This says Yub Nub Premium Cocktail. Yub Nub was the name of the original celebration song on the moon of Endor which was later changed when the movies were re-edited.

My friend ordered a Carbon Freeze which was bubbling and smoking! It was awesome. My other friend ordered a Hyperdrive which I think you are supposed to say PUNCH IT! before you drink.

One last treat, this is Oga's Obsession. It's some kind of dessert and you simply cannot leave without having one. It looks totally alien and it was amazing, every bit of it.
